The cut-off grade is therefore a minimum threshold and all blocks of material in your deposit or mine with a grade (value) above this threshold will generate some profit. In my First Article, I discussed how calculating cut-off grade is essentially a way of making sure that there is enough value in the material to be mined to cover its cost of extraction (mining), processing (milling), and refining (smelting etc.). As mentioned in my previous articles, I believe that cut-off grade is probably the most important factor in establishing the potential economic value of a mineral deposit or mining operation.
